Abstract

This paper aims to explore how social entrepreneurs’ relational embeddedness influences the extension of social impact created by social enterprises. Multiple case study analysis was conducted among social entrepreneurs who train and employ people with special needs in the restaurant and catering industry. Data was drawn from secondary sources and in-depth interviews with social entrepreneurs and their most important partners. The exploratory study revealed that social entrepreneurs have embedded, close relationships with different partner types. This relational embeddedness with different actors led to various scaling patterns of social impact (functional, political, and quantitative). The theoretical and practical implications of the research findings are discussed in detail.
