Abstract

Digitalization is gradually gaining ground in all areas of life, and artificial intelligence is explosively transforming the perceptions of information and knowledge. These effects, however, do not manifest to the same extent for all individuals, and particularly not in equally favorable ways. In this paper, the authors map how a small group of economic actors, entrepreneurs with disabilities, can benefit from digitalization, and the conditions under which they perceive the digital imperative as a blessing or a curse. The results show that while their businesses are often internet-based, entrepreneurs may use high-tech ICT tools and technologies as well as platform work opportunities, there are also several barriers to this. The characteristics of their physical and mental state, the flexibility of their attitude, and the openness of their personality, as well as the economic and sectoral environment, interact in shaping the space in which entrepreneurs experience digitalization.
