Tourism in Saudi Arabia

We have heard little about Saudi Arabia as a tourist destination so far. Hungarian adventure-seekers began to take more notice of the country towards the end of 2022, when WizzAir launched its flights. Prior to 2019, religious tourism was a prominent segment in Saudi Arabia. Crown Prince Mohamed bin Salman announced in 2017 that he would open the doors to traditional domestic and international leisure tourism, introduced as part of a comprehensive social and economic reform program called Vision 2030. The program has led to huge investments and developments. This paper aims to review the international literature and research on Saudi Arabia’s explosive spectacular tourism development, describe current activities and draw some basic conclusions for tourism.
