The direct contribution of tourism to the performance of the Hungarian economy: alternatives of the Tourism Satellite Accounts development

As tourism is not an independent economic sector in national economic statistics, measuring its performance is problematic. The purpose of compiling Tourism Satellite Accounts (TSAs) is to measure the economic contribution of tourism, and show how this contribution is evolving. Hungary has been compiling TSA statistics from the beginning, but these reports do not include two important aggregates – the direct gross value added of tourism (TDGVA) and the direct contribution of tourism-specific industries to gross domestic product (TDGDP). In our study we attempt to outline the anomalies of TSAs.
