Abstract

This study investigates the factors influening travel intentions in conflict-ridden destinations using the example of Turkey. An online survey was conducted among respondents who planned to travel to Turkey. The sample of 1420 respondents was analysed via structural equation modelling. The empirical findings showed that the perceived risk had a negative impact on the attitude towards travel. In turn, the perceived control and positive destination image increased the intention to travel to Turkey. Subjective norms influenced both the perceived control and the attitude towards travel positively. Our research contributes to a better understanding of travel behaviour related to conflictridden destinations, and the results should help market players to minimise any decline in tourism.
