A well-trained workforce is essential in the tourism and hospitality industry. Our research examines the role of mentoring programs as professional communities in the development and retention of young professionals. Based on two focus group interviews, the study explores how experiences, mentorship, and community engagement influence sectoral commitment. The findings indicate that active involvement in mentoring programs, which act as a bridge to the professional community, significantly enhances young professionals’ integration and positive attitudes toward the industry. These communities strengthen emotional bonds, creating a sense of belonging. The research provides valuable guidance for workforce development strategies and emphasizes the importance of mentorship and professional communities in preparing the workforce for future challenges. The findings can also be useful for educators, industry leaders, and decision-makers.
